What this covers
This guide explains how to cancel and deprovision a VirtualPNI whose far end belongs to a third-party B-Side. Because the service spans two accounts, both sides must remove their endpoint configuration before it is fully decommissioned, and only the A-Side can cancel the service.
Both endpoints on your own account? See Cancel and deprovision your VirtualPNI between your own resources.
Before you start
- Only the A-Side (the paying VirtualPNI customer) can cancel and deprovision the service. If you own only the B-Side, you cannot cancel the service — you can only remove your own endpoint configuration.
- Full decommissioning requires both parties to remove their endpoint configuration.
- Deprovisioning is immediate and cannot be undone, and billing continues until the end of your contract term.
- Important: If you wish to cancel your service only without an immediate deprovisioning, DO NOT follow this guide. In this case contact your sales representative directly at: sales@de-cix.net.
- Cancellation applies only to this VirtualPNI. Related services and any commercial bundle must be cancelled separately.
Initiate deprovisioning as A-Side
- Log in to our portal and click on the Services tab.

- Locate the service you want to delete. Use the filtering option on the right to narrow your search.

- Open the VirtualPNI from the Services modal via Edit and go to Deprovision.

- Read the terms carefully — they cover immediate deprovisioning, billing until the end of the contract term, and the bundle-service exclusion.

- Click Proceed to confirm.
Complete deprovisioning as B-Side (third-party provider)
As the third-party provider, you cannot cancel or deprovision the service — only the A-Side can initiate that, and the Deprovision option is not available to you. Once the A-Side has cancelled, your part is to remove your own endpoint configuration so that the service can be fully decommissioned.
- Log in to our portal and click on the Services tab. Locate the affected VirtualPNI — you can search for the DE-CIX Service ID or use the filtering options. A red status dot on the VirtualPNI indicates that it needs your attention.

- Open the VirtualPNI from the Services modal via Edit to reach the service detail page. Here you can see that the A-Side has requested the deprovisioning:
- A banner states: The managing account requested deletion of this p2p_vc network service. Please decommission this network service configuration.
- The Service State shows decommission_requested.
- The A-Side shows Removal in progress — that side is already being removed, while your configuration stays available until you remove it.
- In the Configuration section, click Remove B-Side on your endpoint configuration.

- In the Remove B-Side dialog, review the effect before confirming: your B-Side is removed, while the A-Side is marked third party – unaffected and stays visible while your removal is processed. This action cannot be undone.

- Type DELETE to confirm, then click Remove B-Side.

Your endpoint configuration is queued for removal. The Service State changes to B-Side deprovisioning in progress, and both sides show Removing this configuration while provisioning completes.
As soon as the deprovisioning is complete, the service moves to decommissioned. On the VirtualPNI Service Details page the Service State then shows Administrative: decommissioned, and the Configuration section shows Service is decommissioned — You cannot add configurations to this service. Note that deprovisioning may take a few minutes to complete.
