GlobePEER Traffic Insights Tutorial

Christian Petrasch Updated by Christian Petrasch

This article shows how to use the Service Insights system to monitor traffic, detect issues, and answer key network questions for our Standard customers, defined as those who neither resell services nor operate a DE-CIX as a service (DaaS) location.

General hints about the usage of Service Insights can be found at: Service Insights Tutorial - General Informations

How much traffic do I have overall locations with another customer?

To answer this question you have to evaluate your traffic flows.

For evaluating Flow traffic, navigate to the GlobePeer Traffic Insight and enter the section Flow Insights.

At this section you can choose next to a Time Range you want to inspect and one or multiple of your DE-CIX Service IPs a Peering Partner.

Choose on or more peering partners to evaluate the amount of traffic you are transporting with this customer(s). You can choose "ingress" or "egress" tab for the direction the data flows. Ingress means towards you as a customer and egress means away from the customer.

Please note: Sometimes it can be that your screen size is to small for seeing all data in the GlobePEER Average bandwidth over chosen time by connection.

To fix that problem please expand your window or press ctrl + "-" to reduce the zoom of your browser ( you should see Service-address - ASN - Name and if you hover over the flow the bandwidth).

How can I find peering opportunities for me and how are my routeserver session stats?

For getting peering opportunities and recommendations or evaluating your route server state navigate to the GlobePEER Traffic Insights section and enter Peering Recommendations and Network Information Insights.

This opens the related dashboard with the informations about your peering. It provides the following data:

  • Missing Peering Partners per Location - With which customer of DE-CIX you are not peering at all (in locations where you're currently have an access/peering service)
  • No incoming traffic from - With which customer of DE-CIX you have no ingress traffic (in locations where you're currently have an access/peering service)
  • No egress traffic from - With which customer of DE-CIX you have no egress traffic (in locations where you're currently have an access/peering service)

This dashboard has also informations about analytics about your ASN(s) out of peeringDB, RIPE DB and BGP route collectors. You can find this in the additional tabs of that dashboard.
